Let me tell you there was a lot of hype building up to this event. And terror. And panic. And self-doubt. And…did I mention terror?
And maybe a little whining on my part (about dirt and germs and eyelashes).
My adventure team for this race:
Rachel, Voni, Bethany, Crystal and Jeni Mae
These ladies are rockstars and while Voni, Bethany and I were the terrified newbies, the other three had experience as Super Spartan racers.
I couldn’t have asked for a better team. What a strong, inspirational, motivational and encouraging group of women.
I, on the other hand, learned that I am not a great teammate as I kept leaving behind the last of the crew. I’m really sorry for that. I was fearful of stopping and losing my momentum. I will do better next time, now that I’m a professional…
Oh wait…did I say next time???
We traversed muddy hills, muddy fields, muddy water and pretty much just mud.
We estimated that the course was about 4.5 miles and included some 20 obstacles.
Obstacles, you wonder?
Why, yes!
What kind, you wonder?
Well, just your average walls to scale, spears to throw, barbed wire to crawl under, buckets of rocks to carry, ropes to climb, cold muddy water to swim through, rings to hang from (well, I think you are actually supposed to move across them…but I just hung…for like 2 seconds and then fell) and more.
Oh and we mustn’t forget the 150 burpees that were completed for failed obstacles.
Each.
The best part was everyone jumping in to help out each other on the burpees…thanks team!
But we stormed that last wall, jumped over fire and finished like pros (well, I’m pretty sure I just looked like a drowned, dazed, mud covered disaster…but I FELT like a pro).
BEFORE THE RACE

The pros

The newbies…we really need to work on our matching!

Ready or not…

How we really feel
DURING THE RACE
My husband and Voni’s husband showed up to show their support and capture us in action.

This was technically before the race, but I wanted you to see how far off the ground I got 😂

Love the photo bombing!
AFTER THE RACE
(well, the first few were technically still during the race, but we only had one wall to climb and some fire to jump, so close enough)
For all the anxiety leading up to this event, we pretty much kicked this race’s you know what. I mean we may be walking funny tomorrow, but whatever.
Thanks team for being awesome. For motivating and inspiring me. And for joining me on this adventure.
Warning: I’m about to use a bad word.
We are a bunch of badass moms!
Till next time,
Adventure awaits.
Hell yes we are badass moms. I am feeling like quite a badass over 40! Thank you for inspiring me to go for it. I may not be able to walk but I feel great!!!

Yes…I was just exhausted after that…and cold…and wet…and covered in mud. It was a relief to be out of that muddy water for sure! I hope that I do inspire you to try something new and adventurous. That is, after all, the point of all this craziness 🙂
